The exciting novel for young people is set in an imaginary England of the future. A high fence (The Barrier) has split the country into two regions : The Conurb, a conglomerate of large cities for the working class and the County, rural England for the upper class. The main character, Rob Randall, escapes from the city after the mysterious and sudden death of his father and is "adopted" by a family in The County. He gradually adjusts to his new world until one day he realises that also in this idyllic and exclusive area there are dark perils lurking.
